gold jewelryGiven the fact that my mother is an elegant woman who has made the effort to dress well and groom herself for as long as I can remember I will never understand her attitude to gold jewelry. Various family members have given her gold jewelry in the past including me. Most of my mother’s gold jewelry remains in her jewelry box because she is afraid to wear it. I think my mother is reluctant to wear fine jewelry because she is worried about losing or damaging it. Instead she prefers to wear inexpensive costume jewelry since she figures it is not a big deal if she loses or breaks it.
I think my mother’s fear of wearing gold jewelry is rather ridiculous. Expensive necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets are given to a recipient in the hope that they will enjoy wearing them on a regular basis. Of course there is always a chance that an item of jewelry will break or that you will lose it. I have personal experience of losing a 14k gold earring which fell out of my ear without me being aware of it. I was a little upset because it was an earring from the first pair my husband ever gave me. Still there is a risk associated with everything we do. It is better to wear gold jewelry and lose it than to let it gather dust.
